Virus: Brainless pathogen mustn’t divide us

If a virus could laugh, it would laugh hysterically at these gun-toting protesters currently touring state capitals. If a virus could applaud, it would give a standing ovation to the clustered masses on America’s beaches.

The immutable fact is: COVID-19 cannot be intimidated or ignored. For now, it can only be avoided. Until we have an effective vaccine, it will operate on its own schedule - not ours.

As long as it can hop from human to human, it will thrive.

Instead of letting a brainless virus divide and conquer us, maybe we should accept some basic facts and fight the virus instead of each other: Create safe work spaces and recreational areas, be willing to share the burden and protect the vulnerable.

And by vulnerable, I mean physically and financially - the wealthy but weak 90-year-old, and the healthy young minimum wage worker.

Remember, America’s greatest victories were accomplished through competent leadership and shared sacrifice. Our greatest losses have been self-imposed products of greed, corruption, and division.
