Virus trends: Numbers in news reports lack context
My sense of the COVID-19 statistics we see on the news and in the newspaper is that they miss the mark.
As I understand the situation, we are looking for trends that would indicate fewer people are getting sick and dying. The easy way for us to see trends is to compare new information with old, but all I see is new daily statistics.
Without tracking them and comparing them, they are simply numbers. It has to be pretty easy for news folks to do the comparisons and report trends and benchmarks.
