Racism: To eradicate it, first look in mirror
The threads of racism and discrimination unfortunately run throughout the tapestry of our culture and society. It is much easier to hate and scapegoat than address the real issues.
For me I have to be willing to look deep inside and identify which of my actions and beliefs are racist. Yes, it must start here.
I believe we all exhibit some level of racism in our thoughts and actions. And I must examine how I act in racist ways before I can be authentic in addressing societal racism.
Then we all need to enter conversations with others on changing our culture. This is a process that must continue long past the protests.
We need not just legislation but to reweave a new tapestry across our society. Education needs to be redesigned and sermons spoken about love not hate. It is not enough to identify patterns; we have to change attitudes.
I’m in it for the long haul. How about you?
