Police: License to kill is for movie spies
A lot of good and bad things came out of the 1960s. One thing I found fascinating were the books and movies about a certain very special secret agent who was among a handful of agents with the license to kill.
Now it seems all law enforcement personnel have that license, and rank-and-file officers and labor unions stand ready to defend them.
James Bond had a high level of finesse and killed only rarely and in the interests of international security. Now the mere suspicion of a crime by a black man often elicits that response.
Defunding the police can mean a lot of things, but some reorganization is long overdue.
It is high time for our police officers to stop fighting a war and become the true peace officers they are meant to be. Only then can all Americans walk the streets in dignity and safety.
