Police: Time to disarm and de-militarize

It is time to adopt a new model of policing in the United States, the English model or something else.

Disarm and de-militarize the police. Maybe even prohibit departments from hiring recently separated military members.

One possible model would be unarmed officers patrolling neighborhoods and streets, keeping minor infractions and traffic issues at a minimum.

Supervisors and detectives could be armed, but with a very strict set of rules of engagement, with an emphasis of backing off and choosing the right time and place to effect armed arrests.

There are better models than what we are doing now.
