Freedom: What we can learn from a movie

It’s not often that I take time to sit and watch a movie, but this morning I watched “Glory.” I couldn’t have felt more proud watching the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, an all-Black regiment in the Union Army, fight for freedom during the Civil War.

That history is what we should be showing our children every day instead of trying to tear it down.

At a time when we should be celebrating this country’s heritage, some are determined to destroy all the good this country represents.

While our past has had many challenges, we have overcome them with grit and perseverance, not hate and divisiveness.

There has never been a country as great as this one nor will there ever be. There is little privilege here; only hard work and a desire to succeed and be free of tyranny.

Those men of the 54th and countless others have given more than most can know. To destroy what they have fought and died for is a disgrace to their memory and to this great country.
