Blue line: Society doesn’t need racist symbols

Re: “Tacoma police right to remove ‘thin blue line’ flag stickers,” (TNT, 7/9).

Matt Driscoll’s commentary was right on the money. We don’t need this. Not now.

A letter writer in the July 10 paper said the blue line flag and stickers are all about honoring the police who have died. I’m not so sure.

I have seen more than a few full-size pick up trucks with an enormous blue line flag on one side and a Confederate battle flag on the other. Or a blue line flag together with a Trump banner as well as a huge American flag.

The American Flag is my flag too, and it seems like racists want to make it their own.

If this is all about how dangerous certain jobs are, why aren’t there flags and stickers for roofers, garbage collectors, landscape workers, fishermen, loggers and truck drivers, all of whom have more dangerous jobs than police officers.

Of the top 10 most dangerous jobs in the USA, being a cop isn’t even on the list.
