Biden: On clean energy, he offers some hope

Re: “Biden’s climate plan would overhaul US energy sector,” (TNT, 7/15).

While no Green New Deal, the former vice president did unveil an aggressive climate agenda that would reduce pollution and create millions of new jobs.

The $2 trillion proposal would create a clean power grid by 2035, radically expand the electric vehicle infrastructure and upgrade millions of buildings.

And importantly, by reentering the Paris agreement, it would signal to the global community that “the US is back” and ready to lead in the fight to mitigate the climate crisis.

Scientists state that globally we need to reduce emissions by over 7% per year for the next 10 years to keep the temperature rise to 1.5 degrees C.

Realistically, the chances of doing so are slight. Currently we are on track to exceed 2 degrees, perhaps 3, by 2100.

Biden could be the new, fresh voice to inspire and reenergize the Paris signers to tackle this mounting threat to our good Mother Earth.
