Cancel culture: Running amok with name changes
Re: “Change Mount Rainier’s name, Puyallup tribal official says,” (TNT, 7/24).
OK, let’s do that. And at the same time let’s do the following:
1) Outlaw the last names of people such as: Lynch, Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Amin, Mohammed, Wilhelm, Bonapart, etc. Names that remind people of dictators, slave owners, mass murderers or any name that someone finds offensive.
2) Change the name of the State of Washington. Because he was, in the eyes of college students and professors, a slave owner.
3) Change the names of school mascots named after a group of people and their culture. I am part Irish. The nickname “Fighting Irish” stereotypes all people of Celtic heritage as a bunch of drunken brawlers.
4) Don’t have traffic signals because they impede freedom of movement.
5) Change the name of King County, because it implies royalty.
6) Change the names of the state’s newspapers. Especially those that imply intelligence. Because they are anything but that.
If you think this is stupid, so is the Cancel Culture.
