Political parties: Which one doesn’t trust Americans?

I was watching an interview with U.S. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer about the $600 unemployment payments expiring, and he was asked about the Republican assertion that we shouldn’t pay people not to work.

Almost in passing, Schumer commented that he felt this was a mischaracterization of the American people. And that was when it hit me:

Republicans think the vast majority of working Americans would rather have a free pass than work. The senator acknowledged there were a minority who may feel that way but he felt the overwhelming majority of Americans want to work.

That summed up the difference between the parties to me: Democrats believe in the American people; Republicans think they cannot be trusted.
