Distance learning: Headlines show it’s the right call
Re: “I treat kids every day; they need to be in school,” (TNT, 8/9).
Here are some other News Tribune headlines in the two-week period around when Dr. Lisa Friesema’s guest op-ed was published:
“US death toll from coronavirus hits 150,000,” (7/30); “Pierce County reports 112 new COVID-19 cases and 2 deaths,” (7/31); “1.4 million seek jobless aid as virus surges in South, West,” (7/31); “Partying pushes US toward 5 million COVID-19 cases,” (8/5); “Washington state food industries lead in COVID-19 outbreaks,” (8/6); “US COVID-19 testing falls, even as deaths mount,” (8/6); “Pierce County records single-day high for new coronavirus cases,” (8/7); “Masks, social distancing make difference in state’s virus fight,” (8/9); “11 state cases of serious childhood illness linked to COVID-19,” (8/10); “US tops 5 million confirmed virus cases, to Europe’s alarm,” (8/10); “Coronavirus cases among US children jumped 40% in late July,” (8/11); “Schools mull outdoor classes amid virus, ventilation worries,” (8/11).
Resolve to be resolved. Embrace distance learning.
Refusal to read the reports, or refusal to believe what’s reported, cannot fail to fail in the effort to safeguard our children and ourselves from the pandemic.
