Postal Service: Jam-packed mailbox is ominous sign

The other day I tried to drop two letters into the drive-up mailbox at the Milton Post Office. The box has a single slot about 3 inches high and 12 inches wide. Larger items, such as boxes, can’t be put into it.

The mailbox itself is about 3 feet wide, 2 feet thick and 4 feet tall. Can you imagine how many letters that would hold? Could it ever be filled with letters and small packages?

Yes, indeed it can, because it was so full that I was unable to put my two letters far enough inside that no one could reach in and take them out. Instead, I had to mail my letters inside the post office.

If anyone needs evidence that the US Postal Service is not working properly, this is it.

I’m worried. We all should be worried.
