Religious voters: Trump support is misdirected, dangerous

Re: “Trump campaign moves to salvage support from voters of faith,” (TNT, 8/30).

As a retired United Methodist pastor keenly committed to the biblical standard of justice, my attention was quickly drawn to this article.

The Hebrew prophets persistently declared that a nation is judged by God above all on the personal and family welfare of the “widow and the orphan”– those with no power in the midst of concentrated wealth and influence.

Because of this biblical foundation, my immediate response to the article was that it’s “voters of faith” who need to be “salvaged”– rescued from their tragically misdirected commitment to “The Spiritual Danger of Donald Trump.”

The preceding words are the title of a very important book published a few months ago. Edited by Ronald J Sider, it contains 25 brief chapters written by 30 well-known Evangelical Christians, who earnestly warn of the social and spiritual dangers of Trump continuing as president.

I urge any fellow Christian who is considering a vote for Trump to find the book, read at least three chapters and pass it on to their friends.
