Guns: Washington AG not as powerful as he thinks
Re: “Federal judge rules gun restrictions in reform initiative constitutional,” (TNT, 9/2).
I was surprised to read Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson’s remarks regarding his motion for summary judgment, which was granted, thus upholding the constitutionality of Initiative 1639.
He said: “I will not allow the NRA to undermine the will of the voters.”
I would like to remind Ferguson that it’s not up to him to allow or disallow challenges to initiatives. That power lies with the courts.
He is just an advocate who was able to persuade a court this time. It was rather arrogant of him to say otherwise.
