Electoral College: Picking president this way is abominable

The United States was founded on the principles of democracy, government of the people by the people.

The Electoral College was created at a time when the population was sparse and getting to the polls difficult; counting each vote wasn’t even close to instantaneous.

Today we have the technology to count every vote cast. We have the opportunity to make the presidential election truly of the people and by the people.

The fact that a few states can hold the rest of us hostage by overthrowing the will of the majority is an abomination and needs to be corrected.

The national popular vote is important not only because it allows the people to be heard, but also because it shows the rest of the world that the US is truly a democracy.

Abolish the antiquated Electoral College now. The world, our democracy and at this point our very lives depend on it.
