Catholics: Not all cut from same political cloth

Re: “I’m not the kind of Catholic who believes in Trump,” (TNT, 8/28).

I read Ovidio Penalver’s opinion piece with a bit of confusion.

I too recently received a mailing from Catholic Voter Registration. Curious, I read it over. And then I threw it away.

I wasn’t offended by this mailing anymore then I am offended by mailings from the ACLU. (I have considered returning their mailings with a note that they should stop wasting their postage). And I don’t write opinion pieces about it.

Dr. Penalver says he is “not that kind of Catholic.” OK.

I am the kind of Catholic that attempts to follow the Churches teachings; it doesn’t matter if I like them or not. From Dr. Penalver’s op-ed, I would have to guess we are not the same type of Catholic.
