Teachers: Be in classrooms, even if kids are not

I know of two private schools that are requiring their teachers to be on campus this fall, safely distancing as they lead their students in remote learning from their assigned classrooms.

As a retired teacher, taxpayer and grandmother of school-age children, I think this should be the norm for all schools during the virus.

Teachers would be safe from exposure as they instruct from their classrooms, and no in-person faculty meetings should be required. It would be very encouraging for students to see their teachers in the environment to which children hope to return.

I think the quality of instruction would be greatly improved and accountability for a full day of work from the teachers should be required.

Students would embrace and benefit from this requirement. They deserve the best that teachers can provide during this difficult time.

Parents and guardians have a right to expect teachers to be in their classrooms and to expect quality instruction.
