Sports: Broadcaster’s legacy is as good as it gets

“Bob Robertson, beloved broadcaster across Pacific Northwest, dies at 91,” (TNT, 9/9).

We all came to know Bob via his voice and broadcasts. Many of us also came to know him as a broadcaster who truly understood the “big picture” of sports.

His commentary relative to players, coaches, schools and game officials was always accurate, honorable and respectful. He never disparaged anyone directly involved in the game, yet simply and elegantly reported what he saw.

Bob even took up the avocation of refereeing to better understand the game from an official’s point of view.

His life in the broadcast booth created a legacy from which we all can learn to respect the best of what sports bring to our society.
