Homeless site: City fails to communicate with neighbors
“Tacoma proposes site for homeless housing,” (TNT, 9/17).
I’ve canvased our neighborhood and the majority of my neighbors had no idea that a proposed homeless micro-shelter camp was going to be built at the First Christian Church.
Those of us who live in the general area are absolutely appalled to think the city would even consider building this at the corner of Sixth Avenue and North Orchard Street without contacting those of us who live and work in the area.
In fact this has been planned for some time by the church as a way of raising funds. It was done long before anyone in the neighborhood knew anything about this proposed facility; we found out about it from the TNT.
We have enough problems in our area with prowlers, car break-ins, vandalism, etc.
