Secretary of state: Wyman more partisan than she claims
Re: “GOP incumbent faces state representative in secretary of state race,” (TNT, 9/28).
Washington Secretary of State Kim Wyman states she thinks Democrats may not vote for her this year saying, “and you could lose for reasons that have nothing to do with you.”
Unfortunately the reason she will lose votes has everything to do with her. In 2019, she opposed federal legislation to improve election security and increase voter registration and access. She has opposed or stayed neutral on every single legislative effort to expand voter protections.
She calls herself non-partisan yet is among the secretaries of state who have participated in Republican-only meetings, organized by Hans von Spakovsky, a lawyer for the Heritage Foundation, whose work alleging to prove the existence of voter fraud has been widely discredited.
Her opponent, state Rep. Gael Tarleton, has over 20 years of experience in cybersecurity, having advised the Joint Chiefs of Staff on security measures. Tarleton has demonstrated commitment to expanding voting rights and participation and has successfully worked across the aisle with Republicans.
