Public schools: Espinoza is unqualified to lead them
Maia Espinoza decided to run for Washington superintendent of public instruction because she was disturbed by the comprehensive sex education bill that recently passed the Legislature.
In the state voters’ pamphlet, she claims that fourth graders will be learning about sexual positions. This preposterous statement shows a lack of understanding about how curriculum resources in any subject area are developed autonomously by individual districts.
It should be a wake-up call about her qualifications. She would do well to spend some time working in the trenches of Washington public schools before trying to assume the top education position in the state.
