COUNTY: Citizens will be heard on expensive building

Re: "Pierce County building will go on the ballot" (TNT, 7-11).

I am certainly glad that Jerry Gibbs and his committee have succeeded in getting the necessary signatures to place his referendum on the ballot this November.

That vote will be mandatory, and the county will not be able to ignore the results.

The people of Pierce County must have a voice in a project as expensive as the proposed office building. The whole project needs to be reexamined; there are serious flaws, not the least of which is the lack of public parking.

It is hard to believe that the county has not even considered the purchase of an existing office building. There are several available, and the cost would be much less.

The taxpayers are taxed enough. They do not want their property taxes increased for this poorly thought-out office building. It would be the most expensive project ever undertaken by this county.
