COUNTY: Allow Frederickson shopping options

I was very pleased when I read recently that the Pierce County Council had voted to allow big box stores in the Frederickson area. Taxpayers in this area should have access to some decent-sized stores here.

I was very upset, however, to read that County Executive Pat McCarthy had vetoed the development in deference to the industrial developers in the area (TNT, 7-16).

Taxpayers deal with heavy traffic from all the industrial businesses already. Why shouldn't we be able to shop in a few good-sized stores? The roads are already in place kittie-corner to the Safeway complex. Why not make the most of it and let taxpayers choose to actually shop here?

I am tired of people always deciding what is best for me. Perhaps they need to put it to a public vote?
