COUNTY: Vote no on new administration building
Property taxes, bridge tolls, gas taxes and fees always spiral upward while wages are flat or we're on fixed incomes. We have reached the threshold of taxing generosity and must stop the business as usual practices of wasteful government spending.
We must spend our taxes on priorities like education, public safety, public health and maintaining the infrastructure that serves us all. We can no longer defer maintenance and let existing buildings crumble so government can point to poorly maintained building, then go in deeper debt to build themselves a new palace.
A good example is the proposed $230 million General Services Building in Tacoma. Before we build new we must first look at the smart options presented by Assessor-Treasurer Mike Lonergan (Viewpoint, 7-5).
New debt and taxes must be the last option, not the first. Let's stop the endless spending by saying no to the idea that we need a new government building in Tacoma. Our elected representatives can do better than the existing plan. Please vote no on the special advisory vote.
