PAY: Economy boost isn't the real issue
Re: "No proof higher minimum wage boosts economy" (Viewpoint, 7-12).
So raising wages to $12 or $15 per hour doesn't boost the economy? Is that even the issue?
I think the real issue is parents working two or three jobs to pay rent and buy groceries for their children. The issue is students working through college and still racking up horrendous debt. The issue is families who can't afford to buy school supplies and clothes for the new school year.
The issue is we're balancing our economy on the backs of workers paid so little they can't live without government assistance. Our tax dollars provide food and housing assistance to working poor. Now that's income redistribution!
Apparently what our economy needs for a boost is indentured servitude or slavery. Just think how high profits would go if businesses didn't have to pay their employees!
