IMMIGRATION: Story leaves reader with questions

Re: “RV a rest stop for released immigrants” (TNT, 7-21).

While I understand the benefits of a welcome center for immigrants released from the Tacoma immigration center, I don’t understand why there was no mention of the words “illegal” or “undocumented.”

Additionally, it was clear that the newly released people were allowed to stay in the United States even if they came here illegally. The story felt incomplete and leads to further confusion of the purpose of the detention center. Why were these people detained? Why were they released? Why were they not deported?

I know the article’s focus was about a volunteer’s efforts in helping the released. However, more information could lead to better understanding of the big picture and increased favorable attitudes about the complex issue of “getting on with their life” for released immigrants
