EX-IM BANK: Small businesses benefit from bank, too
Thank you for the insightful editorial on the Export-Import Bank (TNT, 7-22).
As an employee of a small manufacturing company in Western Washington, I can attest to how our exports have been helped by the Export-Import Bank. For the conservative Republicans to call the bank “corporate welfare” is ironic.
The Export-Import Bank insures loans for both large and small overseas projects and assures that American manufactured products are used.
As your editorial points out, this is a government agency that not only turns a profit, it helps keep high-paying manufacturing jobs in the U.S. Rather than throwing the baby out with the bath water, the opponents to re-authorization would be better advised to fix whatever issues they have with the bank’s policies than destroy another American advantage in the world market.
This is a bipartisan issue all sides should be able to agree on.
