SCOUTS: Religious freedom takes another hit
The Boy Scouts of America’s decision to allow gay leaders (TNT, 7-28) has put faith-based-sponsored scouting units in the crosshairs.
In reality, faith-based units do not have a choice whether to allow a gay leader or not. If a unit decides it will maintain the foundation of its sponsor’s religious beliefs, it will be labeled intolerant. As soon as someone is offended by this, they will go to the press or even try some legal action to force that unit to allow gay leaders.
I thought that maybe people would just find another unit that is “tolerant” and join that scout group, but I’m sure that is what the owner of Sweet Cakes by Melissa thought in deciding not to make a wedding cake for a gay couple.
