FIRCREST: 40 years is too long to be dry
Thanks to the efforts of the Fircrest City Council and our state legislators, entities like the Fircrest Golf Club and Pint Defiance will not be affected by the results of any ballot measure dealing with the sale of liquor in Fircrest.
Liquor by the glass is being sold in Fircrest at the golf club and at businesses along South 19th, Orchard and Mildred streets already but just not in the central Fircrest commercial areas. This makes Fircrest the only municipality in the state with this prohibition designation.
If there were any change to the prohibition status in Fircrest, there would be public hearings at which the citizens of Fircrest would have the final say on the types of businesses and the hours they could operate. So there are even more protections in place to ensure that only appropriate businesses operate in our great city.
It has been 40 years since the voters of Fircrest had a chance to vote on the prohibition. A petition currently is being circulated that would allow the voters of Fircrest to decide the future of the prohibition. Please visit the coffee shops, diner and pharmacy in Fircrest if you want to sign the petition.
