SAMI: Voters should get to decide on school

Re: “From logs to logarithms” (TNT, 7-29).

I love and get the idea of Tacoma Public Schools and Metro Parks teaming up to create a shared facility that will be called the Environmental Learning Center.

I am very familiar with SAMI (the Science and Math Institute) and the great success the school has enjoyed and deserves.

As one who pays into the school system through taxes and voting on parks, I am disappointed this was not brought to the public for a vote.

One who has enjoyed close to 40 years of running and walking these beautiful and peaceful trails early in the mornings and on weekends, I have to ask: What will this do to traffic? At one time there was talk about not allowing traffic at all on the Five Mile Drive because of the increase over the years. Also is this the best location for SAMI?

The building is being put in one of the highest use areas, and adding more traffic to the current situation will only make it worse.
