ANN RULE: True-crime author will be missed

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful front-page article on the death of author Ann Rule.

I first read one of her books when my grandmother gave me “The Stranger Beside Me” back in the early 1980s, and I have been a fan of her books ever since. I had the great fortune to meet this gracious lady on two occasions, the first back in 1999 when she put on a seminar at the Puyallup branch of Pierce College and the second time at Green River College, where she put on a seminar with then Sheriff Dave Reichert.

It was a much larger crowd than the previous seminar, and I waited in line quite a while before I was able to have her sign the book I had brought. She took one look at me and asked, “Weren’t you at the seminar that I put on at Pierce College in 1999?”

It still amazes me that she would have recognized me, given the number of people that she had interacted with. She was a great author and a good person, and I will miss her and her books.
