TACOMA: No right to hold different opinion?

Tom Nichols, professor at the U.S. Naval Academy, authored an article in the Federalist webzine titled “The New Totalitarians Are Here.”

He explains this new totalitarianism: “You do not have the right to hold a different opinion …You may not hold on to your belief as a minority view … if you persist and still disagree, I will attack you without quarter and set others on you to deprive you of your status in your profession, of your standing in your community, and even of your livelihood.”

Recently, a local businessman and owner of Dorky’s Arcade, Les Voros-Bond, inappropriately hurled a racial slur at protesters who, in his opinion, were aggressively blocking the street near his business and threatening him.The protest was organized by Tacoma Stands Up.

He sincerely apologized for the racial slur and even offered the use of his business to host events for Black Lives Matter. Tacoma Stands Up rejected this and called for a boycott of Dorky’s.

One protester posted a video of the incident on YouTube. Tacoma Stands Up’s Facebook admonishment followed. Negative comments against Dorky’s were piling up on Yelp and Google (TNT, 8-11).

Tacoma Stands Up: the new totalitarians.
