RAINIER: President should act again

On my kitchen wall hangs a picture postcard of “Mount Tacoma and part of the City of Tacoma Copyrighted 1906 by A. H.”

President Obama has recognized the need to restore the rightful long-term name in Alaska to Mount Denali.

Native Americans bestowed these names on these two tallest peaks in North America: Mount Denali, the tallest, and Mount Tacoma, the tallest closest to sea level. It is right that both of these majestic peaks have their original names restored.

Please join me and others in a petition to our president to restore the name of Mount Tacoma, which was renamed less than a century ago. Let us preserve our history and give deserved recognition to our Native Americans.

Dawn Lucien
