GOP: Was this a debate or a demolition derby?

Wednesday we tuned into the Republican debate hoping the candidates, and their leading entertainment guru Donald Trump, would offer inspired (and entertaining) resolutions for the nation’s problems. Instead we witnessed a demolition derby.

One faction would have us spend trillions for a military buildup in preparation for another destructive war against Islamic terrorists believed to exist in Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Yemen and who knows where else.

On the domestic scene, yet another Republican faction would have us destroy the few reproductive rights women have.

A few Obama haters would have us destroy our progress in health care coverage. Another would have us destroy the lives of about 11 million people by declaring them illegal and deporting them to destinations not yet determined.

Only one supported destruction of the marriage equality decision. Another seemed to favor complete destruction of our government.

How disappointing. We left the debate believing the Republican Party, currently enjoying a majority in Congress, is incapable of constructive leadership.
