HAGGEN: We want our Safeway store back

We had a beautiful, almost new, Safeway store that well served the community. Then the Federal Trade Commission, in its infinite lack of wisdom, caused us to lose that store. This makes no sense because we have two stores owned by the same company(Kroger) that are closer together than the Safeway/Albertsons stores.

Now Haggen is filing bankruptcy and trying to sell off its assets. Haggen came to town under the impression that we would pay anything for our groceries. It was wrong. The equity company that owns Haggen apparently knows little or nothing about the grocery business and obviously did not do its own market research. And for that we are to suffer.

Kroger has closed one of its stores for the next several months, so that if Haggen closes this store we will be down two grocery stores in this town.

I feel sorry for the current and former Safeway/Albertsons employees , as well as the suppliers who will be hurt the most in this mess.

We want our Safeway back!
