POINT DEFIANCE: Volunteers can help enhance safety

We are extremely fortunate to have Metro Parks employees like Julie Parascondola and Richard Madison. They have helped to inaugurate our Park Watch volunteer program. Leon Bomadeir, Mike Harrison and I have also contacted several reliable people to help us with this program.

Anyone can join our ranks. We realize that potential joiners will want to know their responsibilities as Park Watch volunteers.

First, this program is a ground-only patrol throughout public areas of Point Defiance Park. There are no specific “shifts.”

Volunteers’ responsibility on patrol (that is, whenever you are enjoying yourself at the park) is to act as eyes and ears only and report suspicious or illegal activities. Volunteers must avoid confrontations and not approach vehicles or people. They are not to harass, follow or intimidate anyone.

If you appreciate all the park has to offer and have a desire to join Park Watch, or wish more information about the program, please contact Parascondola, regional parks manager, at 253-305-1060. And thanks for caring about our park!
