Your editorial identified seven traits typical of mass killers, but there is one similarity between the Umpqua Community College shooter and Adam Lanza, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter.
Both were raised by a fiercely protective single mother who ignored all of the warning signs and thought it would be a fine and rehabilitative thing to buy their sons heavy weaponry and encourage them to shoot.
Parents, if your adolescent exhibits any of these behaviors, encouraging his gun use is not a good idea! In Lanza’s case, his mother was the first to go.
