UPLACE: Let the children come
In an Oct. 6 letter, the writer states that out-of-district students strain the system and don’t contribute to University Place’s property tax base.
My husband and I bought a house in University Place School District 27 years ago so that we could raise and educate our children here. They are now grown, but we continue to pay taxes that support the schools and future generations.
We like the area and are not ready to move. As long as there is a surplus of childless households like ours, there will be room for out-of-district students. And the school district will still get tax revenue from those of us with empty nests. Let the children come.
