TACOMA: Our tax rate is too high as it is

Our property tax rate in Tacoma, at $17.35 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, is already the highest in Washington. Tacoma’s 9.5 percent sales tax is among the highest sales tax rates in our state.

Raising these taxes burdens all Tacoma citizens. Voter approval to raise these taxes encourages our city leaders to continue seeking off-budget funding sources when they have misprioritized the significant budget they already have.

We citizens have to live within our means, and we must hold our local government more accountable. Our roads need maintenance as they always will, but don’t be fooled that your particular road will necessarily get fixed with this 10-year tax increase. Enough tax! Say “no” to Proposition 3 and Proposition A.
