Tacoma: Road users should be ones taxed

It was close, but Tacoma voters voted against taxing property owners to maintain roads.

Why should property owners pay for roads, especially ones they don’t use? Road users - cars, trucks, buses, bicycles, taxis, parked and stored vehicles (boats, RVs, trailers, etc.), even billboards - should pay for roads.

Property owners pay for their sewers, parks, drainage, sidewalks, utilities, flood control, garbage disposal and such facilities that enhance their property.

Simple tax-and-use fairness should prevent a property tax for road maintenance.
