Refugees: Columnist seems to take hardline position
Re: “Agencies prepared to welcome Syrian refugees” (Matt Driscoll column, 11-19).
Driscoll’s commentary concerning Syrian refugees is questionable in its tone. He seems to denigrate individuals who don’t agree with allowing the refugees into the United States.
He asserts that the governors who don’t want refugees in their state are “posturing politically.” Could Gov. Jay Inslee also be “posturing politically,” since both he and President Obama are Democrats?
Any opposition to allowing refugees access to our country and specifically Washington state is nothing more than “profound and crippling fear.” How convenient for Driscoll to decide how an individual should feel.
Perhaps Driscoll is the one who has taken a “hardline position.” If that is the case, then this letter isn’t going to sway him. And in his words, “that’s too bad.”
