Syria: There are no simple solutions

Re: “Syria: Obama’s legacy outweighs lives lost?” (letters, 11-29).

The letter writer appears to have overly simple Fox News solutions for very complex issues. I myself (a Cold War/ Vietnam Navy veteran) do not want us to be in an endless war in the Middle East… again. I certainly don’t want to condone one more American life lost in an unwinnable conflict. We have seen that a vacuum left in a country just breeds more problems because the people won’t defend themselves.

The idea of a no-fly zone sounds great on the surface, but how do you implement it? What happens when a Russian plane is shot down by accident while trying to enforce this no-fly zone? Look what is happening to Turkey in response to shooting down an aircraft flying over its sovereign territory.

I wonder how your opinion would differ if this president was not in office. I wonder if this is just an end-around to denigrate his presidency. And, I wonder if you really care about these refugees. I think not.

Remember, it was George W. Bush that gave us two wars, 9-11 and a financial meltdown. They all happened on his watch, and this president has spent his time in office digging us out. He’s done admirably!
