Tacoma: Couldn't plastic bags be more biodegradable?
Re: “Tacoma might restrict plastic shopping bags” (TNT, 12-15).
I would like to paraphrase that trite NRA statement: “Bags don’t litter, people litter.”
It should be painfully obvious by now that it is virtually impossible to legislate morality or personal responsibility in our self-centered, irresponsible society.
Eliminating plastic bags might eventually reduce one source of trash for people to throw on others’ property. Or, perhaps with a little incentive, might not some industrial engineers reformulate the plastic in those bags to be more biodegradable in substantially less time than thousands of years?
