Peninsula: Levy approval supports community

My children’s future is currently in Peninsula voters’ hands.

My sons attend Peninsula schools, and I have served as a PTA president and volunteer at school so I speak from experience that we cannot fail our children or our community.

I have lived in this community for 15 years, and the two biggest reasons people live in the Gig Harbor area are safe neighborhoods and good schools. We cannot take either of those for granted, so we must remain vigilant, especially with supporting our schools.

We cannot count on our state legislators, who punt the “school funding ball” down the field year after year. Nor can we count on the state to step in if we lose our levy funding.

We have the opportunity to keep our schools strong through a replacement levy with a lower estimated tax rate - a good investment considering great schools help keep neighborhoods safe, attract businesses that create jobs and benefit property values. It is also a good sign when our elected officials have put aside partisanship to support this levy.

Please exercise your right to vote and return your ballot by Feb. 9.
