Bethel: District is a good steward of our tax dollars

As a grandparent of students who have attended the Bethel School District, I want to encourage our community to vote yes on the Feb. 9 Bethel bond measure.

The education my family members received in Bethel schools prepared them for life beyond high school. It’s now time to modernize Bethel High School, expand Graham-Kapowsin High School, replace Challenger High School and fix the other schools. This will give future generations the positive learning environment they deserve.

I applaud the district’s planning and fiscal responsibility. In this bond, instead of constructing a brand new Bethel High, it will keep our costs reasonable by fully modernizing and replacing buildings.

In the previous measure, the district demonstrated a proven track record of the highest standard when it comes to fiscal management. The last bond in 2006 delivered as promised and was well managed. An example is the Pierce County Skills Center, which provides hands-on training to hundreds of our students each year.

Further, the swimming pool is needed so our kids will learn to swim, and it will provide our community with a facility everyone can enjoy.

(Rasmussen is a former state senator.)
