Bethel: Aquatic center a plus for district

When I found out the Bethel School District was proposing an aquatic center as a part of its bond measure in February, my wife and I were very pleased. Not only will a pool serve our students, it would also provide benefits for all members of this community, especially retired people like us.

Swimming is gaining popularity around the region, and facilities in the South Sound area are maxed out. In addition, the increase in visitors to our district as a result of competitions and events at the new aquatic center will bring a monetary benefit to the businesses throughout our community.

This pool is a true bargain. The district will take advantage of more than $10 million in matching funds from the state to fund the pool. A $29 million aquatic center that will have something for all ages will only cost our community $19 million.

Lastly, I believe the steps taken by the Bethel School District to present this bond to include an aquatic center will benefit us personally in an increase in the value of our property.
