Politics: Big money is corrupting our system
We all agree – Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, independents, uninteresteds, everyone – that politics at the federal level is corrupted, broken and fails to respond to the needs of the people.
A string of disastrous Supreme Court decisions has exacerbated our problems by essentially legalizing political bribery – giving corporations the rights of human beings and categorizing money as speech.
The only way to overrule the court is by amending the U.S. Constitution, which requires ratification by 38 states. Article V says that two-thirds of the states can call for a convention to address a specific need – in this case to remove the corrupting influence of money from politics.
California, New Jersey, Vermont and Illinois have done just that. Now it’s our turn, it’s our time.
Please, ask your state legislators to support Senate Joint Memorial 8015 and House Joint Memorial 400, asking Congress to call a limited convention to propose a free and fair elections amendment to the Constitution.
