Election: Where's Clinton's action on direct election?

Re: “Time is over for Electoral College” (letter, 2-5).

Over the last couple of elections, there have been numerous opinions posted here and online concerning the usefulness of the Electoral College.

As I remember, after the 2000 election, Sen.-elect Hillary Clinton called for direct elections of the president, saying “We are a different country than we were 200 years ago.”

She went on to say, “I believe strongly that in a democracy, we should respect the will of the people, and to me, that means it’s time to do away with the Electoral College and move on to the popular election of our president.”

She further stated that that was something she was going to work on. I could find these words spoken by her, but found no evidence of any effort on her part to do anything.
