Tacoma: Methanol plant should be welcomed
Concerning the construction of a proposed methanol plant in the Port of Tacoma: A plant of this type will employ many well-compensated and highly skilled employees with jobs that will be the envy of many citizens.
These are the jobs that we hired our Economic Development Board and the port to go out and find! Our mayor should be proudly discussing this project rather the hiding under her desk. What do you think the mayor of Flint, Michigan, would be doing right now?
There appears to be a fear of the pollution effects from this new plant. Our state and federal government have stringent environmental laws. Pollution liability can be financially devastating to a company. Just ask British Petroleum. No one would design and build a brand new plant that pollutes.
Wise up, Tacoma. Congratulate your city leaders for doing something right and attracting this manufacturer with these jobs. Tell them to treat this employer right and help it get all of the permits needed to get this thing built.
