Remann Hall: Approach promises brighter future
Re: “The new Remann Hall: Fewer kids in detention” (TNT, 2-19).
I agree with the new system Remann Hall is using to help kids who are in detention centers.
Kids do not have the capacity to think clearly about what is right or what is wrong, and very few of them think about the consequences in their actions. So if a kid gets into a fight with another child, they are in the heat of the moment and do not think of the outcome.
Other children may replicate what they see going on around them. An example would be when they are raised around abuse; then abuse would be all they know.
I grew up in an abusive home. I didn’t have the drive to get through school, and I didn’t have self-confidence. But luckily I had teachers, friends and family members to inspire me to keep going forward and motivate me to keep pushing. I realized not everyone has or had those who push them to do better in their lives.
So not only will this approach lower the crime rate, but this will truly allow children to look forward to a bright future.
